Why it matters
An Authorized Dealer (AD) is a retailer officially appointed by the watch brand to sell new watches with full manufacturer warranty. Watches bought from an AD ship with stamped warranty cards. Outside the AD network, watches come from grey-market dealers, pre-owned dealers, or private sellers, each with different warranty implications.
If you're buying new, ADs are the only source for first-hand purchases with full factory warranty. For waitlisted models like the Rolex Daytona, your purchase history with the AD often determines your allocation order.
Common questions
- What does AD mean in watches?
- AD stands for Authorized Dealer, a retailer officially licensed by a watch brand to sell new watches with the manufacturer's warranty.
- Why do collectors care about AD purchases?
- AD purchases come with a stamped warranty card, full factory warranty, and inclusion in the dealer's purchase history records. For high-demand brands like Rolex, your purchase history at an AD often determines whether you get offered the next allocation of a hot model.
