Why it matters
Panda describes a watch with a white dial and black subdials. It's the most common Daytona configuration but the term applies broadly across chronograph dials. When someone says they're selling a Panda, they could mean a current Daytona, a vintage Speedmaster, or another chronograph entirely.
Clarify the reference number before assuming what's on offer. The Reverse Panda (black dial, white subdials) is its own collectible.
Common questions
- What is a Panda dial?
- A Panda dial is a chronograph configuration with a white main dial and contrasting black subdials. The term originated to describe the look but applies across many chronograph models, not just Rolex.
- Is every Panda dial a Rolex Daytona?
- No. Panda is a dial style, not a model. Omega Speedmasters, vintage chronographs, and modern microbrand watches can all have Panda configurations.
